It's looking likely that Robert De Niro will make a movie player this year where he will play legendary Green Bay Packers coach Vince Lombardi. What's the flick's title? Lombardi, naturally.
De Niro is a virtual certainty to make the movie as he's also a producer on the film through his Tribeca Productions company. Benjamin Button screenwriter Eric Roth has been hired to write the screenplay which will be based on Lombardi's life story rights and the material found in Instant Replay, a non-fiction book written by former Packer Jerry Kramer and Dick Schaap. ESPN Films is also involved as a producing company with Tribeca.
The makers want to capitalize on the best time of the year for football fans to be amped to see this one, so they've already announced that they would like to release the movie the week between the AFC and NFC Conference Championships and the Super Bowl in 2012.
If you're out of the game, Lombardi was acclaimed for raising up the Packers from a basement standing team into a five-time Superbowl championship powerhouse in the 1960s.
