Review: Game of Thrones, Season 2 Episode 6

Based off of George R.R. Martin’s 1,000-page opus A Clash of Kings, the second season of HBO’s Game of Thrones takes the first year’s intricate plot lines, character shadings, and thematic undercurrents and simultaneously expands and deepens them to a ridiculously exponential degree.  Or, at least, it’s supposed to – the actual doing just may prove to be a ways off from the source material’s being.

Exclusive: Assembling the Avengers -- Part 2

Avenger nerds, (re)assemble!  Rob Keyes, editor at Screen Rant, Patrick Sauriol, the editor-in-chief of Coming Attractions, and Brant Fowler, the chief operating officer of Comic Related, continue their conversation with freelancer Marc N. Kleinhenz about the vitality of ScarJo’s Black Widow, the likelihood of a second Incredible Hulk installment, and, of course, the best order to watch the first five Marvel Studios movies in.

Exclusive: Assembling the Avengers -- Part 1

It’s been four years since Marvel busted onto the movie scene controlling its own purse strings with Jon Favreau's excellent Iron Man (May 2008), and after releasing the likes of The Incredible Hulk (June ’08), Iron Man 2 (May ’10), Thor (May ’11), and Captain America: The First Avenger (July ’11), it’s ready for the giant, half-decade-long payoff that is Add a comment (0)

A Game of Characterization: Roundtabling Game of Thrones’s Second Season (Thus Far)

Having been three episodes into a season that is simultaneously more surefooted but also more divergent than its predecessor, Marc N. Kleinhenz decided to call up some of the biggest fans – and critics? – of both HBO’s Game of Thrones and George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire series to get out the microscope and examine what have already proven to be some of the show’s most controversial elements, changes, and improvisations.  It’s a star-studded lineup to discuss what is turning out to be one of television’s biggest breakout hits.

Game of Thrones: What Has Been Known

At long last, season two is upon us! In just a few short hours, the five kings of Westeros will clash to see who claims the Iron Throne – and who will come to a nasty, bloody end in the name of vengeance (or just political expedience). To help refresh your memory of all the many twists and turns of season one, Coming Attractions has put together this brief rundown of the first year’s major story beats. Needless to say, there are plenty of spoilers in this post, so mosey on along if you haven’t caught up just yet.

Game of Thrones: A primer to prepare you for season 2

New to George R.R. Martin’s world of A Song of Ice and Fire, which now consists of five novels, three novellas, and, very shortly, two seasons of a breakout HBO series? Or are you a veteran that still finds the houses of the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros confounding, with their various family trees, arranged marriages, and assassination attempts? Not to worry – Coming Attractions is here to help. Use this simplified, spoiler-free guide to help whet your appetite for the television odyssey that is to come or as a refresher course to help prepare for season two. Either way, it’s 3,000 years of backstory to parse through, and we’re all going to do it together. And while you’re at it, if you like Marc N.

Exclusive: Game of Thrones season 2 roundtable

Game of Thrones’s second season, based off of George R.R. Martin’s novel A Clash of Kings, is blissfully due to descend on us in just a few weeks’ time.  And though anticipation for the show’s return couldn’t be higher, there seems to be a growing undercurrent of tension or concern among both the fan and journalistic communities.  Showrunners D.B. Weiss and David Benioff have changed the name of Asha Greyjoy, Theon’s sister back on the Iron Islands, to Yara?  The way-cool storyline the crippled Bran Stark has back at Winterfell might be cut and moved to the third season?  Daenerys Targaryen’s minimal presence in the novel might be dramatically expanded – with action scenes?

5 reasons why Prometheus may be a bad Alien movie

As I write these words we’re three months away from watching Prometheus, Ridley Scott’s big return to science fiction movies. The Prometheus movie marketing hype has just kicked up a notch with the reveal of the TED 2023 talk. As the clock ticks down to Prometheus’ June 8 opening we’ll see the marketing escalate, and more of the movie’s secrets (and its increasingly likely strong connections to the first Alien movie) emerge from the shadows.

Ten Years of Sucking: Thoughts on The Lord of the Rings movie trilogy

Man, was I excited to see The Fellowship of the Ring just a tad over ten years ago. Though I had only seen the well-intentioned-but-still-very-mediocre The Frighteners before sitting down in the theater that cold December night, I was very confident of Peter Jackson’s ability to transcribe J.R.R. Tolkien’s fully-realized literary world onto the big screen lovingly, faithfully, and, above all, accurately. After all, several million people on the internet couldn’t be wrong about his filmmaking bona fides, right?

They were wrong. Horribly, tragically, depressingly wrong.

A Chronicle of the unrecoverable

Chronicle is, not to put too fine a point on it, a paradox.
