April 14, 2009 - Drag Me to Hell / set report
Scooped on Tuesday, April 14, 2009
"What I really liked about the script and Sam's process is it's not just a horror film, even though it is in that genre," said Drag Me to Hell star Alison Lohman to Sci Fi Wire during that site's visit to the set of the movie last year, and now published on their site. "It is primarily just a story of this regular, normal girl who is very happy in her life and just experiencing some really crazy things that are happening to her. ... I love that [Sam] brings a sense of humor to it, so it's not just a horror film; it has all of these different elements, and it's very layered."
Sci Fi's set visit describes how Raimi filmed one scene involving Lohman's character Christine as she takes part in a seance meant to provide answers for how to remove the curse placed on her.
"I'm trying to make a horror movie that people go to, they laugh at, they think is suspenseful," Raimi explained. "They get excited about ... the action, exciting monster sequences. They get scared. They go, 'Oh, gross,' and have those types of funhouse reactions. So it's a lower-brow goal that I really enjoy working in, this level. For me, it's a great weight off my shoulders."

"It is primarily just a story of this regular, normal guy who is very happy in his life and just experiencing some really crazy things that are happening to him." was the general plot description for Evil Dead 1, 2 and 3...oh, Darkman also.
