It's that time of December when it's trailer madness! In the past few days we've seen new trailers for several big movies coming out next year like Pacific Rim, The Lone Ranger, Star Trek Into Darkness, After Earth, Man of Steel, Oblivion and World War Z. Now you can one more to that list: G.I. Joe Retaliation.
This latest piece of movie marketing is actually the third trailer promoting the film, and ever since the first teaser trailer came out in the spring, my interest has been picqued. Unlike the first G.I. Joe movie, it looks like Retaliation is handling the source material with the correct quotients of action set pieces, fast one-liners, over-the-top mayhem and what's really important, a Cobra force that seems to have all the cards in the deck before the first fifteen seconds of the trailer are over.
Look, if I'm paying good money to see a live-action G.I. Joe movie, I expect to see crazy stuff. I want to see Cobra flags adorning the White House! I want to see Snake Eyes swordfighting ninjas on the side of a mountain! And yeah, I even want to see an old '80s action star play the original G.I. Joe.
Everything that I see about G.I. Joe Retaliation makes me think that there's just the right amount of playful winking going on to make this movie fun without turning itself into a parody.
OK, enough with my opinion. Here's the new trailer for G.I. Joe Retaliationwhich opens on March 29, 2013 and stars Channing Tatum, Dwayne Johnson, Bruce Willis, Ray Park, Adrianne Palicki and Ray Stevenson. Tell me what you think of it and if I'm mad for loving what I see.
I'm probably in the minority, but I enjoyed the first one. It had ridiculous action, like what kids might come up with for their toys, and I guess I went in with low expectations, but I was entertained.
When they announced that most of the cast wouldn't be back, any enthusiasm I had for the sequel went out. I wanted to see more JGL and Rachel Nichols (well, I always want to see more of her), and the trailer was just "meh." Couple that with the delays and I've no plans to see this theatrically.
Richard Gozinya, Harold Snatch and Wilbur Jizz. Together we are the law firm Gozinya, Snatch and Jizz.
I too liked the first one. The action was cool and seeing Snake Eyes was awesome. I had some issues with it, but overall I was a fan. So, I was looking forward to the new one quite a bit, but the delays don't make me enthusiastic for this.
I agree that I would have loved to see some of the original cast return, (JGL, Rachel Nichols, and especially Christopher Eccleston), but if they could capture some of the original's fun then it could be fun. And if they got rid of Tatum and Wayans, all the better.
This trailer does still have me interested and being a life-long Joe fan, I will be there opening weekend, but I'm not as excited for this as I was the first. Time will tell!
