Dwayne Johnson would like to be a G.I. Joe 2
Posted by Patrick Sauriol on Monday, June 6, 2011
Now here's an interesting twist in the perculating vortex known as G.I. Joe 2: Dwayne Johnson is in talks to play a new Joe named Roadblock. Actually, Roadblock is a character from Hasbro's action figure line-up of Joes, but the character wasn't introduced in the first film, G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra.
Johnson is coming off of Fast Five and he's got heat. His introduction into the Fast and Furious was a calculated risk and it paid off big for Universal and the actor. He'll likely be coming back in Fast Six or whatever they're going to call the next one, giving the former WWE wrestler an established action franchise to be a part of. If he signs on to star in G.I. Joe 2, and if that film can utilize Johnson the way that Fast Five did, then he'll be trading up his stock even further.
Jon M. Chu is still director on G.I. Joe 2 and I don't think that any fans from his Justin Bieber movie experience will be transferring over to the Joe universe. Deadline is also reporting that it's looking good for Channing Tatum to come back in the Joe sequel as the wooden-faced Duke. Paramount is skittish about spending as much on GIJ2 as they did on the first film, so this new one will have less Joes and Cobras in it.
Here's the other thing about this news: trying to sign Johnson might mean that Paramount wants to slot G.I. Joe 2 into a summer 2012 position -- and this might be seen as an early indicator that Star Trek 2 won't be ready to meet its June '12 release date. So, you're getting a sequel from Paramount next year, it's just that one won't have any starships in it.

Lucas Black will be Beach-Head. Beach-Head's from Alabama, and Black is from Alabama. If for some reason Lin replaces Chu, it's a done deal.
