A friend saw an early screening of this and said that it was the best pic he saw all year (and he sees a lot of films in his job) and that Rourke could very well get Best Actor. (My friend also reminded me that, before he was a joke and an asshole, Rourke was a brilliant actor from bit parts in BODY HEAT to the lead in ANGEL HEART.) Apparently when Aronofsky approached Rourke he told the actor that if he could drop the asshole-ishness and just fucking ACT, Aronofsky said this role would get him nominated.
Now let's see if Mickey can remain a changed man...

This is probably the only movie on my must see list at this time.
Regardless of his personality and life problems Rourke has been a pretty solid actor. He may not have the typical star buzz thing going on but he's the kind of actor who can blend in to a role. He's the kind of actor who becomes a character and you forget he's 'Mickey Rourke'. You can't say the same for the majority of blockbuster, big hit, big name Hollywood stars who sound and look the same in every movie they're in.
I myself say a good turning point for Rourke was Sin City but I can see how this movie may be the one that gets the general public fired up and thinking this was the one.
