IESB has published two of a three-part look at J. Michael Straczynski's screenplay for the new Forbidden Planet. If you've wondered how the writer cracked the monumental task of crafting a sequel to the original legendary sci-fi film, here comes a spoiler:
IESB's first part goes into the first 10 minutes of the proposed film. The second part goes further into the first act as well as explains the introduction of Robby the Robot in the film. The third -- well, it's not online just yet.

According to Ain't It Cool the new Forbidden Planet will be more of a continuation of the original film's story and not so much as a remake as we originally believed. The site reports that the new movie will be a "enormous, giant, retro sci-fi movie" that follows in the footsteps of the first picture. Another item learned was that Robby the Robot will definitely be included in the modern FB.

Warner Bros. is the latest movie studio to try and find a way to crack an updated version of Forbidden Planet. After picking up the property earlier this year the house that Bugs Bunny built has hired J. Michael Straczynski to write a new screenplay. The creator of the 1990s sci-fi TV series Babylon 5, Straczynski is getting some attention for penning the screenplay for Clint Eastwood's now-in-theaters Changeling. He is also working on a script for Universal based on the Lensman series of books and has penned an adaptation of the zombie apocalypse novel World War Z for WB.
Joel Silver (Speed Racer, The Matrix, Lethal Weapon) is producing.
