Creative differences have forced Dredd director Pete Travis to exit the production. The story broke on the L.A. Times' 24 Frames blog and came from three anonymous sources. When asked to comment on the story, no one associated with the production would go on record.
The Times' sources state that the directing job has now fallen on the shoulders of the movie's screenwriter, Alex Garland, who is also one of the film's producers. The story goes that Garland has now stepped up to the task so completely that he might ask for a co-director credit from the Directors guild of Great Britain, though that hasn't been asked for just yet.
Nothing else was speculated as to the precise reasons why Travis decided to not finish the movie.

Going into last week's Toronto Film Festival, the pre-sales for Dredd had been very strong. DNA Films started approaching distributors back in May at the Cannes Film Festival, and the reception was good. However, it was the interest from prospective business scouts at Toronto, which isn't known as a market for movies that haven't been produced yet, that's gotten people talking.
Already the pre-sales for Dredd are at $30 million dollars. That's two-thirds of the movie's modest $45 million dollar budget accounted for, with about 90% of the worldwide rights sold. In fact, a $7 million dollar deal was struck with Entertainment UK for the movie's United Kingdom distribution during TIFF.

On the website for IM Global, the movie's financier, under the show's description the film is refered to as Dredd and not Judge Dredd. The info on IM Global seems to be recent as it lists off Karl Urban's involvement, so we're going to assume that the change in the movie's title is indeed official.
