A new project called Blacklight is in development for three different arenas of entertainment, namely film, video games and comic books. Zombie Studios, the Seattle-based game development firm behind the America's Army and forthcoming Saw games, is working on the game while the screen rights have landed with Fox Atomic. Both the game's story as well as the screenplay for the movie will be written by Jason Dean Hall, the writer behind the upcoming Ashton Kutcher comedy Spread.
Described by Variety as a "covert military action story set 25 years in the future," the film will have Zombie CEO Mark Long and Union's Dmitri Johnson and Dan Jevons as executive producers. Richard Liebowitz (G-Force) is getting producer duties.
"We are excited by the huge potential Blacklight has to succeed across multiple platforms," said Debbie Liebling, Fox Atomic's president. "It offers us a remarkable franchise opportunity for film." The Fox shingle also has its own in-house comic book/graphic novel division and it's likely that the future Blacklight comic will be published through it.
Zombie's CEO told additional details about the game's storyline to The Seattle Times. "You play an elite covert ops team that is sent after an American CIA colonel gone rogue who has lost all sense of restraint in his pursuit of the enemy. You're to either capture or kill him."
