What do you think is going to be the best movie of next summer?

I'm pulling for "STAR TREK" and "TERMINATOR SALVATION"

Tough call. Not sure it's going to be those two though. Star Trek looks too 'cutesy' and I was done with Terminator after T2. Transformers looks like fun even though I want to push Michael Bay's face into his ice cream.

X-men Origins: Wolverine.

Things look kinda bare right now. Lots of big dumb ones. Between Transformers 2 and GI Joe we should be all set on idiot characters and dialogue for a few years, right?

Harry Potter may make a run at it, though I'd still rather watch it in a Nov/Dec timeframe. Never feels right seeing Harry Potter during the summer.

After the first trailer I saw I gotta give the edge to X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Terminator may do well but it's going to have to be able to draw non-franchise fans as it seems clear it won't be able to rely on it's current fan base. As for the others mentioned here, Star Trek isn't grabbing my attention yet and I've heard literally ZERO about Transformers other than it's the goofy looking StarScream's movie.

I'm getting a strong suck-vibe off the Terminator trailer. Star Trek looks dicey, too, but I'll probably drag my ass to the theater for it.

I still cannot get over the opening trailer for Star Trek. I seriously laughed my ass off when Kirk jumped off the bike and stood up to say," I am James Tiberius Kirk." (or Whatever)

It was just to cheesy for me. I will still go and see it but not the opening I would have gone with.

As for next year....I still think it might be to early to tell. But as it stands I am going for X-Men, Terminator and Star Trek.

I keep my standards low, that way im never dissapointed

Yeah, Star Trek looks cheesy but I'm definitely in line to watch it. I can't help but still have a little bit of love for that franchise, I even liked ST: Nemesis. :)

But you know, I honestly think that Harry Potter and the Order of Phoenix will probably be the big draw for the season ticket wise, it'll make lots of bucks.

I still vote for Wolverine though. Gambit will be awesome. :) :D

I meant to say Harry Potter and the Half-Blooded Prince.

I should get some sleep, 3 am and still surfing the net. :)

I don't know if there's any clear-cut heavyweight except Harry Potter and Transformers but I'm looking forward to Star Trek, Terminator Salvation (the show has buoyed my hopes that there are still good roads to go down with this concept) and, God help me after the mess that was X3, X-Men Origins: Wolverine. I'm a raging, megahuge Hugh Jackman and Liev Schrieber fan.

The Trek trailer doesn't really look like Trek, and Terminator could be fun but I have no idea of the plot, and who knows what's happening with that giant robot toy movie. The Wolverine trailer looked cool, but I have no idea what the film's about. Therefore, knowing the dark turn in store, I have to go with Harry Potter 6.

Trek - reboot
Terminator - sequel
Transformers - sequel
Potter - sequel
Wolverine - prequel

Damn, is there anything original coming out next year? I s'pose there is Watchmen, if it ever get's out of court.

Star Trek looks to be my favorite for 2009. I like the direction it's heading from what I've seen and heard. Terminator looks kind of good, but without Arnie there is no Terminator. It's basically a sci-fi movie with robots as far as I'm concerned. Transformers will be OK. Even if it's as good as Transformers, it will not be the best of the summer. Wolverine could take the top spot if it's done right. The first X-Men is one of my favorite comic-adaptations ever.

Best, or most successful?

HP6 will bring in money, but the story is (IMHO) the weakest of the series. I think there's gonna be big drop-off. Wolverine and Transformers are betting it all on the characters being enough; it's not like either is going to have a ton of storyline attached. Would Wolvie even be getting half the buzz if it wasn't tossing slavering fanboys a bone by (anachronistically) featuring Gambit?

If Trek can adequately reinvent itself, it will do well. Not boffo, but well.

The cham-peen brawler next summer will be Terminator, even sans Arnold. Everyone wants to forget T3, and everyone loves Christian Bale. Batman + Killer Robots = full of win.

Scheduled for 2009 Summer Release (I'm starting with early May, ending with late August), to the best of my knowledge (and with a bit of supplementary Googling):

X-Men Origins: Wolverine (1 May), Star Trek (8 May), Angels & Demons (15 May), Brüno (15 May), Night at the Museum 2 (22 May), Terminator: Salvation (22 May), Up (29 May)

Land of the Lost (5 June), The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3 (12 June), The Year One (19 June), Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (26 June)

Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs (1 July), Public Enemies (1 July), 2012 (10 July), Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (17 July), G-Force (24 July), Piranha 3-D (24 July), Funny People (31 July)

G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra (7 August), Shorts (7 August), Inglourious Basterds (21 August), Halloween 2 (28 August)

* * *

This is an incomplete list. I'm looking forward to Up and Inglourious Basterds. I'm curious about Public Enemies and Brüno. I imagine I will be going to see all of the ones listed above. I go to the movies with some frequency.

STAR TREK might be able to pull a miracle, the last two sucked flat as did the last Terminator flick. we're all a curious bunch and we'll pack the seats easy. Transformers 2, i'll definitly be there, I've grown tired with Harry Pothead and I'm waiting for Inglorious Basturds too.
Wolverine... after that fiasco that was X:III, only true comic book nerds and hardcore fanatics will rush to theaters.

I noticed we're not being treated to another Brett Ratner flick or Uwe boll flick this summer.. YAY!.

I know I know... I said the exact same thing... c'mon GD, didnt you realize we were all clamoring for a remake/sequel of Piranha 3D?

and i dont beleive Goiter is interested in seeing 3/4 of those flicks.. he just listed all the movies that are coming out.

I was, as mckracken guessed, listing a number of the bigger releases for everyone's benefit. I will probably be going to see most--if not all of them--because I have made a nasty habit of moviegoing. On the upside, I watched fewer new releases this year (120-ish) than I did last year (130-ish). It is my goal to watch fewer and fewer from year to year. I have become more indiscriminate than I'd like to admit.

Goiter, didn't you see Little Man? You can't get much more indiscriminate than that!
