September 22, 2008 - Cold Warrior
Scooped on Sunday, September 28, 2008
Three years after making his directoral debut with the black comedy/action flick Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, Lethal Weapon screenwriter Shane Black has found his next assignment for Universal Pictures. Cold Warrior is being described by Variety as a story about a Cold War agent who comes out of retirement to work with a younger agent on a terrorist threat that emerges from Russia. The screenplay for the film was written by Chuck Mondry and the producers will be David Greenblatt, Anthony Bagarozzi and Michelle Manning. If you follow script sales then the names of Mondry and Bagarozzi may be familiar to you; they were writing partners who sold their spec script Tick-Tock to Columbia Pictures back in 2000 for a cool million bucks.
Black made a name for himself by writing the original Lethal Weapon film for producer Joel Silver and then went on to write a number of high concept action movies that featured conflicted heroes. After selling his script for The Long Kiss Goodnight to New Line Cinema in the early 1990s and watching the movie go on to become a dud at the box office, Black too a decade long hiatus from Hollywood before returning in 2005 as the director of Kiss Kiss Bang Bang.
