June 2, 2009 - Escape From the Deep / project announced

Moon helmer Duncan Jones is attached to direct Escape From the Deep, a WW2-set thriller about the true events that occured aboard the U.S.S. Tang. After the submarine was crippled and sunk to the depth of180 feet of water, the crew faced a terrifying dilemma: stay on board and likely perish due to oxygen deprivation or risk drowing by attempting to hold their breath and swim to the surface where enemy Japanese patrol boats lurked.

Brilliant Films is developing the movie based on the non-fiction account by Alex Kershaw, who will also pen the screenplay. Brilliant's Joe Abrams and Rory Gilmartin are producing.

"Having been fascinated by submarine films like Das Boot and Crimson Tide, it's a really unique opportunity to tell an amazing stiry like this that is actually true," Jones told Variety. [Full story]
