February 9, 2011 - Highlander / Melissa Rosenberg now writing new draft

Screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg is in negotiations to write the latest draft of Summit Entertainment's Highlander movie reboot. Rosenberg has written the screenplays for all five Twilight movies for the studio and also wrote episodes of Showtime's hit drama/thriller series Dexter.

She is the third writer to take a whack at the Highlander remake after the original writing team of Art Marcum and Matt Holloway penned the first draft. Theirs was followed by a draft done by Cormac Wibberley and Marianne Wibberley (G-Force, National Treasure, The Sixth Day).

They should just scrap this idea already.

Is Connor going to be 17-year old sparkly high school student now?

I'm sorry.  Maybe I shouldn't be so quick to judge.  I mean, i guess she did an okay job in adapting the source material for Twilight into a feature film.  Maybe she'll do okay with Highlander.  However, there has been concern that the powers-that-be are looking to make this some sort of hip, trendy, PG-13 romance-ish movie.  The hiring of Rosenberg seems to confirm that.  That makes me sad.

Highlander had the potential to be a really cool franchise, but it's been so ineptly handled (theatrically, at least), I think many people will automatically expect the worst of a reboot.
