The Return of Ipsy's Completely Biased Fall TV Schedule: 2011!

Posted by Ipsilon on Monday, August 22, 2011

It's back, bitches!

After, at least, a two-year hiatus, here it is. I have to say, though, Fall TV's looking pretty abysmal, this year.

Monday
20:00 Terra Nova (FOX)

Tuesday
20:00 NCIS (CBS)
21:00 NCIS:LA (CBS)
22:00 Unforgettable (CBS)
22:00 Parenthood (NBC)

Wednesday
21:00 Harry's Law (NBC)
22:00 Law & Order: SVU (NBC)

Thursday
20:00 Community (NBC)
20:30 Parks and Recreation (NBC)
21:00 The Office (NBC)
22:00 Prime Suspect (NBC)

Friday
20:00 Chuck (NBC)
21:00 Grimm (NBC)

Saturday
23:35 SNL (NBC)

Sunday
20:00 The Simpsons (FOX)
20:30 Allen Gregory (FOX)
21:00 Family Guy (FOX)
21:30 American Dad (FOX)

Some of these I'm reluctantly giving a chance (Allen Gregory), so this schedule will surely change by Christmas. Hell, by October.

I'm thinking, also, that I will record Chuck and save it for the following Monday, which is where it's been since it was born and should stay there.

Is anyone watching American..err, I mean The X Factor?  The wife made me record it, but I havent' watched it.

Also, KV, what was the 2001 bit, I must have missed that.  I was going to post about the Dr. Who reference on Community, but haven't gotten around to it.  I think they called the show Professor Timeline or something to that effect.

When Joel McHale's chracter got doused by the monkey knockout gas, he had the dream where he was in the room with the lit-up floor from the end of 2001: A Space Odyssey, and it went through that whole sequence very quickly, with the study table standing in for the monolith.

And yes, the BBC comedy and Doctor Who bit was hilarious, they called it "Inspector Space-Time" and he traveled in one of those red phone booths and fought Dalek-like robots (I can't remember what they were called).

So despite me having added Prime Suspect, Person of Interest, and Unforgettable to my tv tracking site, I don't really have much interest in watching any of them, so I'll probably drop them off. And if Unforgettable had held any interest for me, the promotion for this week's show put the kabosh on that one in a hurry. "She never forgets anything, but this week, she'll meet a boy who wants to forget." Second episode and they're already going to that obvious trope. Fucking weak.

Cable went out for last night's Terra Nova premiere.  Is the universe trying to tell me not to waste my time?  Anyone watch it?  Now, I'll have to go to Hulu.  If Hulu goes offline right when I am preparing to watch it, then I'll know that there is a higher power.  Adam?

Anyone watching Strike Back? I think it was on Cinemax over there.

So far, of the new shows I've watched:

  1. Ringer: Seen two episodes and it seems very soapy and twisty, but SMG is so appealing I'm enjoying it.
  2. Terra Nova: watched the pilot the other day, and thought the action elements were fine but the family drama stuff was hackneyed. The CGI dinosaurs weren't bad, so we'll be giving a shot and seeing if the political backstory makes the show more interesting.
  3. Person of Interest: I wasn't expecting much from the description of the show, but taped the pilot because it was JJ Abrams. I was really pleasantly surprised by the show. I thought it had a real Bourne-film vibe, with good action and a hero with a tortured past. I gave it a season pass right away.
  4. Prime Suspect: Taped but not watched yet. Hearing a few not-so-great things about the show and haven't got around to it yet.

PS: After seeing the season premiere of Parks & Rec, I'm thinking it's the funniest show on my schedule, and it's only getting better.

Dalty's personal Cinemax does.

It was a co-production with Sky, as was BSG (with SyFy).

Despite my better judgement, I've added Revenge to my list, mostly because of Madeleine Stowe. Though obviously the revenge plot will drag on and on forever with no resolution ever (hence the "g" in Revenge turning into an infinity symbol. What else could that possibly mean? And what's worse, they're basically saying it up front right to our faces.)

How awesome is this? Community's Doctor Who riff "Inspector Spacetime" has already garnered quite a following!

The Sudden Emergence of Inspector Spacetime

Check the Tumblr link at the bottom of the article for some hilarious parodies of Doctor Who companions and villains. So far my favorite is that like the Doctor's Master, the Inspector's worst villain the the Baiter.

Thursty, they've stolen your idea and wrote fake history about a fake TV show!  And, they stole someone else's idea for which to do it!

How do you feel about this?

That happened and we all let it happen.

Google 'TV GO HOME' from Charlie Brooker first.

Finally watched the first ep of 2 Broke Girls. Very sparse with the laughs. And then they switch to a second storyline that is even more unfunny. So yeah, droporino. Then I happened to catch about 18 seconds of a random Whitney episode, and so yeah, no fucking way I'll ever watch any more of that. No surprise that Whitney is in the 30 Rock timeslot, because that always starts about a month after all the regular shows start, so when it starts back up in its usual timeslot, Whitney can be pushed off into the ether.

Finally watched the pilot for New Girl. I enjoyed it, but the best part was whenever one of the guys acted like a douchebag, they had to put money in the Douchebag Jar. If poor Hicksie lived there, he'd be flat broke within an hour!

Quasar pretends to be going after Hicksie, but it's pretty clear he's just egging on Adam54.

I tried to watch the premiere of Boardwalk Empire yesterday. I found it a bit tedious. What's wrong with me?!

I still need to watch that Jakester, haven't had time to go grab it.

Anyone watch Suburgatory?  I probably wouldn't have recorded this normally, but the wife wanted it, so I recorded it.  I was surprised at Cheryl Hines cleavage!  I never noticed that on her when she was on Curb Your Enthusiasm.  Other than that, the show wasn't that great.

I saw the commercials. It didn't look bad, but given your less than stellar recommendation, I won't bother.

I'm going to give American Horror Story a go this week. Given the pretty bad review from Dan @ Hitfix, I'm not expecting much.

I just don't recall laughing that much at the show.  The basis is a single father finds condoms in his teenage daughters' drawer and decides that he shouldn't raise her in New York City, so he moves her to the 'burbs.  The whole premise is the transition to surburban living for both her and the father.  The story is told as voice-overs from the daughters' perspective.  Other than the occasional bikini shots of the surburban housewives, there weren't many other redeeming qualities of the show.  That and Cheryl Hines boobs!

Oh, I may have a misplaced apostrophe here or there in the last post.  I usually end up guessing on those.  Please spare me Grammer Police!

Oh, there seems to be a nude beach pic of her. Google it.
