Found this on the Game of Thrones readthrough. I'm almost through all my dvd sets, so this is kind of fun.

The Face of Boe does call the Doctor "Old Friend" and his dying words to the Doc, are "You are not alone." and we all know what that is referring to.

I stood next to the Face of Boe at the Doc. Who experience.  It's a lot smaller in real life than it looks on the TV.

And yet we still manage to disappoint even more in person.

I'm sorry, but no.  Feel free to read this (it's a lengthy piece on why "Star Trek (2009)" is not Star Trek.).

That happened and we all let it happen.

I read your entire piece, and I thought it was well-written, made some interesting points, and was a good analysis of the elements that make Star Trek what it is. I just don't agree with its conclusions.

Star Trek (2009) may be a more "modern" take on the franchise, and it certainly has its flaws, but it is still Star Trek.

Thank you for the compliment.  I'm afraid we'll have to agree to disagree, though.

Just because it's Star Wars doesn't mean it's not Star Trek.  If they call it Star Trek, that makes it Star Trek.  I'm sure that sucks for some, but that's the way it is.

They called the prequels Star Wars, so they're Star Wars.  I'm sure that sucks for some, but that's the way it is.

America calls itself a democracy, so it's a democracy.

Dan Brown calls himself a writer, so he's a writer.

I call myself a good man, so I am a good man.

Right?!

They say agreeing to disagree is a mathematical impossibility for rationalists.

You might as well just say you disagree and leave it at that.  There's no reason to foist a false cordiality upon the shoulders of your disagreement.

If you both agree that you disagree, then you agree to disagree. Fact!

What if we disagree to agree? Does that still work?

One of us always agrees. The other always disagrees. But you can only ask one of us.

Plinkett thinks Star Trek (2009) is still Star Trek.  I always bow to his wisdom.

I also cannot argue with is position that all of the TNG movies suck.

Bill Simmons finally launched his new website Grantland at noon today. He revealed the name a month or so ago, I think, and I still don't know where they got that from. His 'Welcome to' article is pretty entertaining, mostly because it talks about his time with The Jimmy Kimmel Show, which I know very little about. Now I know a little more.

I was going to comment on this, but I forgot. Figured Adam would be the first to talk about it. I don't recall hearing why it's called grantland either.

I haven't had a chance to read the articles yet, otherwise I would have. As for the name, this from the New York Times Magazine:

"Given their dynamic, it’s hard not to wonder how the relationship between Simmons and ESPN will play out at Grantland. The site will be a separate publication, with Simmons in editorial control. Ultimately, though, it’s owned by ESPN, and the parent company has already made its presence known, choosing the site’s name, which Simmons is less than enthusiastic about. He worries that it sounds pretentious, he told me, but the higher-ups at ESPN “loved it, and they’ve been so supportive of the site. You’ve got to pick your battles.”"

Apparently Simmons himself doesn't even know what it means?

That reminds me of this (quoted from the Wikipedia article for Peanuts):

In 1948, Schulz tried to have Li'l Folks syndicated through the Newspaper Enterprise Association. Schulz would have been an independent contractor for the syndicate, unheard of in the 1940s, but the deal fell through.[citation needed] Li'l Folks was dropped in early 1950. Later that year, Schulz approached the United Feature Syndicate with his best work from Li'l Folks. When his work was picked up by United Feature Syndicate, they decided to run the new comic strip he had been working on.[citation needed] This strip was similar in spirit to the panel comic, but it had a set cast of characters, rather than different nameless little folk for each page. The name Li'l Folks was too close to the names of two other comics of the time: Al Capp's Li'l Abner and a strip titled Little Folks. To avoid confusion, the syndicate settled on the name Peanuts, after the peanut gallery featured in the Howdy Doody TV show.[8] Peanuts was a title Schulz always disliked. In a 1987 interview, Schulz said of the title Peanuts: "It's totally ridiculous, has no meaning, is simply confusing, and has no dignity—and I think my humor has dignity."[9] The periodic collections of the strips in paperback book form typically had either "Charlie Brown" or "Snoopy" in the title, not "Peanuts", because of Schulz's distaste for his strip's title. From 11/28/66 to 1/4/87, the opening Sunday panels eventually typically read Peanuts, featuring Good Ol' Charlie Brown.

One of the victims is a "40-year-old man."  I guess that could also be Patrick.  It could have been, anyway, back in early April.

Roll Call!

Patrick?  You still here?

I don't turn on my TV too much, cause I watch most things on my computer, so I don't see a ton of commercials. I'm watching the NBA Finals right now, and just saw an ad for an SUV, the Honda Odyssey. The music for this commercial was Judas Priest's 'The Hellion'. That was weird, but cool.
