I am 175 dead on.  Is a UK weight pound the same as a US pound?

I think it's about 1.5 conversion. Therefor you weigh about 262.5 regular pounds.

Don't the Brits weight themselves in kilos?

That's the Germans.

If the Germans do it, it must be the right thing to do.

I thought all of Europe was on the Metric system.

Did you think all of Europe was using the Euro, too?

From what I recall, the Brits don't consider themselves as part of Europe.

And Dalty said "dong" and "gag" in the same post. Tee hee hee.

Ahhhhh, the "In" or "Out" of Europe debate.  Where to start, where to start?  Basically there is always a massive debate raging inside Britain re: the EU.  Most of it centres on the fact we are a contributor of billions whereas countries like Spain, Greece, Portugal (and Ireland and Italy too lately) just keep getting huge EU subsidies whilst contributing nothing but a quite nice place to go on our holidays.

Massive resistance in Britain the the Federalist Superstate leanings of the pro-Europe movement too, plus being told what to do by unelected Eurocrats tends to piss us off.

As we have a sense of humour about the whole thing, we went and elected Nigel Farage, the head of UKIP (UK Independence Party, an anti-Europe political party) as a Euro MP and sent him to Brussels.  Oh, how we laughed!

Germany--that poor, eternally guilt-ridden shmuck of a country--pumped a lot more into the Euro than anyone else who uses it, and probably benefited the least from it.

Germany needs to be guilt-ridden. They harbored lazy Goiter for years!

Yup, and the hard working, inventive and organised Germans are also quite rightly furious that those lazy-ass Mediterraneans, with their siestas and low output, have needed huge amounts of German cash.  They didn't like giving up the Deutschmark, and they are hating saving the Euro from Southern profligacy even more.

Imagine how the Brits feel.  We didn't even join the Euro currency and our economy needs all our attention at this stage of the recovery, yet today we are looking like being stung for £6billion to bail out Portugal who spent it all on public sector employment forgetting a little thing called productivity and balance of payments.

I wasn't even referring to the whole Euro bit. I just remember once talking to a British friend who'd been away, and when I asked where she'd been, she said "they'd been to Europe."

See what you started here Negs!!!!

With any luck the Euro will collapse.  I say that not because it won't be bad for the World economy, but because it will allow me to be an insufferably smug bastard and tell lot's of people "I told you so!!!"

German economy is growing so suffering inflation.  Portugal, Ireland, Italy, Greece & Spain (the PIIGS) remain in the shitter, however the Euro Central Bank just raised interest rates due to German inflation (and to keep the Germans happy because last winter they were talking about having to kick the PIIGS out of the Euro or leave themselves).  This interest rate rise will place more pressure on the PIIGS and make defaults more likely.

Italians hate having to use the Euro.  That's pretty much all I have to contribute to this conversation.

I could contribute other comments about people from Italy but Jake would have to cover his eyes, put his fingers in his ears & sing very loudly.

Setting aside the economic or political aspects of the "part of Europe or not" debate, from an ethnic or cultural perspective, is there really such a difference?  English are basically descendants of German Angles and Saxons.  Scots, Irish and Welsh are members of the Celtic family etc.

Put another way, if Britain is not part of Europe, by virtue of it's physical separation from the continent, is Japan then not really an Asian country?

You are forgetting the Southern Tribes. Where do you draw the line anyway? We are all African, if you want to put it like that, leaving aside the economic and political aspects, and time.....

Random. 4 more days to Vietnam!!!!! Well, 4 more days 'till I get on the plane. 5 more days until Ho Chi Minh City. Can I get away with calling it Saigon? Only for ease of typing.
