On a day that has seen the revealing of the first poster for the Twilight sequel New Moon comes yet another piece of Twilight news that will delight fans of Stephenie Meyer's vampire romance tale and infuriate its detractors. Much to the surprise of no one Summit Entertainment has plans to adapt Meyer's fourth and final Twilight novel, Breaking Dawn, into a film. The difference in today's news is that the existence of the hitherto secret movie was confirmed by someone inside the inner circle, namely star Robert Pattinson.
Pattinson was surrounded by members of the press at the Cannes Film Festival when he made the not-so-shocking confirmation. He also let slip that he's finishing up filming the Italy scenes for New Moon before heading back to Vancouver to wrap up his work on the sequel. After that his plans are to star in another Summit picture called Remember Me in which he will play a man trying to figure out if he's fallen in love. (Don't worry you anti-Twilighters, Pattinson isn't going to be sparkly and play another vampire in Remember Me.)
In the fall Pattinson will be headed back to Vancouver to begin work on Eclipse, book number three of the Twilight saga. He also told the press that while a Breaking Dawn movie is a guarantee he doesn't know when Summit wants to have the film in production. My best guess would put the start of Breaking Dawn filming in the spring of 2010. That way Summit could have the final Twilight movie out in theaters for holiday 2010 or, if they feel leisurely, for the summer of 2011.
