Trailer: Man of Steel

Posted by Patrick Sauriol on Saturday, July 21, 2012

The first trailer, a teaser, for the new Superman movie Man of Steel is finally online. And there are two versions.

Visually, both Man of Steel trailers are the same but they feature different narration. On one version we hear Jonathan Kent (Kevin Costner) speaking to Clark/Superman, and in the other it's Jor-El (Russell Crowe) speaking to his son.

First, the Jonathan Kent voiceover trailer:

And now the Man of Steel trailer featuring Russell Crowe's Jor-El:

Directed by Zack Snyder (300, Watchmen) and produced by Christopher Nolan (The Dark Knight Rises), Man of Steel is current set for a June 14, 2013 release.

Man of Steel stars Henry Cavill as Clark Kent/Superman, Kevin Costner as Jonathan Kent, Diane Lane as Martha Kent, Laurence Fishburne as Perry White, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Russell Crowe as Jor-El, Ayelet Zurer as Lara Lor-Van and Michael Shannon as Zod.

I'm going to try my damnedest not to hate this before I've seen it.

Come on, tell me that they don't both give you goosebumps?

I am so used to Snyder films looking shiny and over produced.  I am staggered by how dialled down this looks.

Looks like he's mostly going to be using his blue filter, and not his orange filter. He mostly used the blue filter for Dawn of the Dead Remake + Zombie Baby. He mostly used the orange filter for 300: If Kid Rock Were a SuperBadass Movie, He Would Look Something Like This. He mostly used the blue filter for Not Your Daddy's Watchmen, but he threw in a little orange filter for Mars and Vietnam. I'd say Sucker Punch: Zack Snyder Is Deeper and More Intellectual Than You, Plus You're a Voyeur and Should Be Ashamed of Yourself and Owl Movie Star Wars were about half-and-half.

I hope that kid wearing the sheet cape is some kid inspired by Superman, and not Clark Kent as a kid.

Your despair will be so much deeper because you had hope.

That's a beautiful line, Quasar--almost Zod-like. Kudos.

When the franchise is ashes... You have my permission to fire Zack and put Chris in the driver's seat

This film could be absolutely amazing but will always be tainted, in some peoples eyes, by the stench of Snyder.

Dawn of The Dead was enjoyable and I thought Watchmen was good because I don't have any kind of unreserved love for the graphic novel.

This trailer did nothing for me.  It really needed to show a bit more in a teaser, not even an oooooo this is going to be awesome - and I know theres more to it than this

Snyder seems to be aping Malick a bit in the above. That makes me even less prone to like the teaser. The Lord of the Rings music is also a little distracting.

I hope we at least get to see Superman shaving himself by bouncing eye lasers off a piece of his ship.

Snyder's Dawn of the Dead's fast zombies really bugged me. Also, Zombie Baby.

We don't dislike Snyder movies just because Snyder directed them. We dislike them because the things about Snyder movies that annoy us are present in all of Snyder's movies.
