Michael Fassbender to star, produce in Assassin's Creed movie
Posted by Patrick Sauriol on Monday, July 9, 2012

Michael Fassbender, that British rising star of Hollywood and indie film, has reached an agreement with Ubisoft to play the lead role and also help produce a big budget Assassin's Creed movie. Although the video game company didn't talk too much besides gushing about getting into business with Fassbender, it's a good guess that the Prometheus/X-Men: First Class star would play the cloaked assassin Altair (and perhaps his modern day descendant.)
With Fassbender now a lock, Ubisoft is in a very strong position to pick up talks with Sony Pictures. Last fall the two companies were in discussions about Sony making an Assassin's Creed movie. Since then, the conversations died off but both sides are still open to picking things back up. However, with Fassbender now onboard, Ubisoft has a stronger hand at the table. They may also want to begin talks with other major studios like 20th Century Fox, the owners of Prometheus and the X-Men franchise, and where Fassbender is already an appreciated commodity.
Fassbender has his own production company, DMC Film, and will produce the Assassin's Creed movie through it.
