The Dark Knight Rises run time revealed

When you go see The Dark Knight Rises, make sure that you hit the bathroom first. The run time for the highly anticipated Batman movie is finally known thanks to a published report filed by the British Board of Film Classification, and it's 164 minutes and 27 seconds.

In practical terms, that makes The Dark Knight Rises 2 hours and 44 minutes long. When it comes out it will be the longest Batman movie made to date, beating the run time of The Dark Knight by 12 more minutes.

Everyone knows that Christopher Nolan likes to make long movies. Inception is 148 minutes, The Prestige is 130 minutes and Insomnia, by comparison, is a short 118 minutes long. Even so, releasing a movie that's nearly three hours long would be considered a risky gamble...if Nolan's track record of also making highly profitable pictures wasn't already established.

I bet there's lots of bloat.

I bet there's lots of later dialog that calls back ironically to earlier dialog.

Have to agree with the Goiter - it just seems like something we see a lot when a successful franchise gets sequels. There's no longer the impetus to make a lean, mean movie; rather they throw in everything but the kitchen sink. I don't want to sound crotchety: there's nothing I'd like better than to be enthralled for every one of those 164 minutes, but I'll believe it when I see it.
