Wil Wheaton gets weepy when Star Trek: Next Generation cast reunites
Posted by Patrick Sauriol on Thursday, May 3, 2012
This past Sunday in a cowboy hat wearing city of Canada known as Calgary, the entire cast of Star Trek: The Next Generation got together on stage for the first time in a looooong time. Not only were the seven principle cast members up there in front of 7,000 fans (Patrick Stewart, Jonathan Frakes, Gates McFadden, Marina Sirtis, Brent Spiner, Michael Dorn, LeVar Burton) but so was fanboy enemy #1 himself, Wesley Crusher (Wil Wheaton) and even that dead sexcurity chief of the USS Enterprise, Tasha Yar (Denise Crosby).
While it's only Patrick Stewart who's gone on to have what could be called a bigger acting career after his TNG time, the cast members that hung in there for all seven full seasons (and four subsequent theatrical Trek movies) probably don't need to work another day in their lives, if they want. That's not so true for Wheaton and Crosby who missed out on the millionaire payoff when they jumped ship and departed The Next Generation before the show ended its run.
Wheaton's gone on to make a second career for himself by showcasing his cerebral wit and self deprecating humor, rallying the fanboy community to finally like the kid that was once considered the most hated sci-fi character ever. But at the Calgary Star Trek convention, it was a surprise question from Battlestar Galactica cast member Aaron Douglas that brought forth an unexpected emotional moment from Wil Wheaton and the rest of his castmates. Watch and witness it unfold on the stage:
