Matt Smith leaving Doctor Who next season?

Posted by Patrick Sauriol on Wednesday, October 26, 2011

Did the current actor that plays Doctor Who just let the cat out of the bag?

In a video interview with VH1, current Doctor Who actor Matt Smith may have inadvertantly revealed that his next season of the show could be his last as the Time Lord.

"I've got another year of Doctor Who," Smith told the channel (and which was then brought to our attention by TG Daily), "but then I’m certainly going to come and give it a shot, come and hang out in LA."

See for yourself:

The BBC has already announced Smith as returning in the 2012-2013 season of Doctor Who, which would make for his third series playing the character. 2013 also marks the 50th anniversary of the show, and that will also likely mean something special being planned. But will it involved Matt Smith regenerating and a new face playing the twelfth version of The Doctor?

Seeking answers, TV Guide contacted the Beeb and asked for a straight answer. A television representative then said that Smith's contact called for him to appear in at least 14 more episodes of Doctor Who. After that, the BBC said "there is nothing else to announce at this stage."

So, is Matt Smith throwing out hints to gauge the public's reaction and to possibly use in contract discussions for re-upping his Doctor Who job, or is Smith serious about ending his run on the sci-fi show and trying his luck in Hollywood?

I love him. I didn't think anyone could top Tennant but Smith does. His take on the Doctor is great.

....says "Kill Bond, NOW!"
