X-Men: First Class cast photo revealed

Posted by Patrick Sauriol on Tuesday, January 18, 2011

Behold, your first look at the cast of characters from X-Men: First Class.

Left to right we have Michael Fassbender (Erik Lensherr/Magneto), Rose Byrne (Moira MacTaggert), January Jones (Emma Frost/White Queen), Jason Flemyng (Azazel), Nicholas Hoult (Beast), Lucas Till (Havok), Zoe Kravitz (Angel), Jennifer Lawrence (Mystique) and James McAvoy (Charles Xavier/Professor X).

How the image debuted on the Internet seems to be a story itself. The cast photo first went online at MSN as an exclusive. As the image proliferated around movie and genre websites, MSN then removed the image and the story that accompanied the image. A reason why hasn't been provided.

Bleeding Cool has the unwatermarked image that we're using for this story.

It's interesting to see that, for First Class, the mutants are wearing the blue and yellow costumes established for the X-Men in their comic book and not the black leather look from the X-Men movie trilogy. A reminder: X-Men: First Class is set in the early part of the 1960s, and will have a retro futuristic set design.

For the big reveal of everyone's first look at the new actors portraying X-Men and mutants from that universe, the way that the photo was let out seems to have been a creative blunder for Fox.

X-Men: First Class comes out on June 3, 2011. For more about the production history of the film and who else is in it, visit the Coming Attractions movie database page for the film.

Without any information other than that photo, I'd assume this was a show that was going to air on the CW.

X-Men: First Class? Why, oh why did such a promising franchise go so horribly wrong? The first two Singer adaptations were good with the second installment being better than the first. The White House opening sequence is still one of my all time favorite action sequences, ever. Then Ratner. Good. God. What a mess. I was so let down by "The Last Stand". X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Jackman was sensational (to look at...WOW!). However, what a weak story. Now we get this latest and greatest X-Men movie.

Quasar is absolutely dead on with the CW comment. Nail. Head. BANG.

The mutants that should be represented as Xavier's "First Class" are Cyclops, Iceman, Angel, Beast and Jean Grey.

This picture, eek gad! Emma Frost looks like a porno star. Xavier with hair? Why were these mutants chosen from the vast catalog of characters Marvel has to offer? Why can the original storyline not be followed in these films?

So very sad.
