X-Men screenwriter getting paid to go to video game hell
Posted by Patrick Sauriol on Wednesday, March 18, 2009
Superman Returns and X-Men 2 co-screenwriter Dan Harris is going it alone when he'll write the script for Universal Pictures' Dante's Inferno movie, based on the Electronic Arts video game that's in development.
The hot property first came to our awareness when news of the game's development leaked out last fall. At the time there was also heavy talk that EA wanted to get a movie in development based on the IP, and sure enough a bidding war erupted between four studios. Universal was the victor.
A trailer for Dante's Inferno was finally released late in December 2008:
Variety mentions that game creator Jonathan Knight has his hands involved in the development of the movie too along with EA's top dog Patrick O'Brien.

Two thoughts... First, not sure I like this guy's track record. Second, there's a lot of video game adaptations in development hell. The few that have broken through have been bloody awful (we're looking at you Uwe Boll).
I would much prefer a straight adaptation from the actual text, not some lame first-person-shooter adaptation (or third-person or whatever - you get the point, and I haven't played the game).
