Video: Lionel Richie's Hello

Posted by Patrick Sauriol on Thursday, January 19, 2012

When you're a fan of Lionel Richie love songs and Hollywood movies, what other way can you truly express your passion except through the form of a video mash-up?

This video by Vimeo user ant1mat3rie (a.k.a. Matthijs Vlot) takes the familiar notes of Richie's 1984 classic tune "Hello" but has the lyrics delivered by dialogue in some of Hollywood's best-loved movies. 43 movies, to be precise, including moments from The Matrix, Back to the Future, Schlinder's List, Goodfellas, the original Planet of the Apes, E.T.: The Extraterrestrial, Lethal Weapon 2, Being John Malkovich, Yellow Submarine and many others. And these clips have been assembled just brilliantly so that they totally carry the tune.

Take a look and marvel at this brilliance of editing, and then wonder if the person can do the same for other easy listening hits from the '80s.

Here's the funny thing: I watched it for Total Recall Arnie, and he didn't even have a line in the song.

That was the stangest part of the video to me.  They just show Arnie during a part of the song where there are no words, when they just could have shown Sharon Stone for the last line.  Was that just a ploy to get Arnie in the video or did they need the extra video to get the timing right?

Okay, I just watched it again and it is timing.

Brilliant!
