Tron Legacy earns $18m at Friday's box office

Tron Legacy had a commanding Friday night showing, taking in an estimated $18 million dollars from North American theaters on its first day. That number includes about $3.5 mil from midnight early showings of the sequel.

An $18 million dollar opening day isn't going to rewrite record books but it's definately a reassuring sign for Disney. Legacy is on track for a $50 million dollar opening weekend, and if the movie made one penny less it would be deemed a disappointment by its owners and the box office analysists.

Yogi Bear turned up in second place with an opening day take of $4.6 million. The Fighter expanded nationwide and leapt up to third spot ($3.9m) while The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader fell to fourth ($3.5m).
