Unlike the Toy Story sequels or even the Monsters Inc. prequel, I'm not sure I'm on board with Cars 2 yet. This teaser doesn't pique my interest at all.

If you haven't heard, Disney and Pixar are making a spinoff from Cars called Planes. With a self-explanatory title like that, you already know what this side project is all about. Planes won't be released theatrically but instead arrive on DVD next year, similar to the direct-to-DVD animated sequels that Disney put out a few years back.
As the release date for Cars 2 creeps up (June 24), Disney has released the first teaser trailer for Planes. Check it out below to get a whiff of what the aerial version of Cars is shaping up to look like, and to be amazed that a movie studio that makes films targeted at children has finally found a way to incorporate a Rob Zombie movie into its marketing.

A tailspin-off!
Oh great, now I'll never know if I'll like this because the video was pulled. Dammit!

I was just explaining to someone how Disney used to put out direct-to-dvd crap sequels to popular movies (Little Mermaid 2, Aladdin 2), and commented that Cars 2 looked to be in the same vein, only somehow it's going to theaters. So now they finally get around to putting out the direct-to-dvd crap sequel, only it's a spin-off. At least they managed to get two crappy looking movies out of the usual process instead of one. Good on them!
