Les Misérables has its legion of worldwide fans anxiously awaiting the movie's holiday release (December 25 for North America and January 11, 2013 for those in the U.K.) While those fans in England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland will have to wait two weeks longer to see the film, please note that they are the land that delivered us this new trailer for the Les Misérables movie today.
Set in and during a pre-revolutionary France, Les Misérables stars Hugh Jackman as escaped convict Jean Valjean; Russell Crowe as Inspector Javert, the policeman who dedicates his life to recapturing Valjean; Anne Hathaway as Fantine, a woman who through adversity is forced to give up her young daughter Cosette; Amanda Seyfried as the now adult Cosette; and Helena Bonhan Carter and Sasha Baron Cohen as the vile innkeepers who keep Cosette until she is bought from her imprisonment by Valjean.
OK, let's watch the trailer and see what this $61 million dollar musical looks like:
We all knew that Hugh Jackman had the pipes but who knew that Russell Crowe could hold his own? The Les Misérables movie looks like it has all the trappings of a big event: A-list stars, broiling human emotions, a star-crossed love affair, a quest for revenge, period costumes and sets, song tunes known worldwide and a built in global fanbase that is eagerly awaiting its release. Any way that you slice it, Les Misérables will likely wind up being one of the event movies of the holiday season.
