Marvel Studios, Disney and Paramount have released the first trailer for Iron Man 3. Watch:
All that talk from Robert Downey Jr., director Shane Black and Marvel prez/producer Kevin Feige about Tony Stark having everything stripped away in IM3 looks to be legit.
This is just a teaser but it delivers on the promise that, if you watched the first two Iron Man movies, then you have to check out Iron Man 3. Ben Kingsley is in it as The Mandarin, and yeah, we finally get a glimpse that his character will be wearing the ten rings (just like the comic book version), but this isn't set up to be a villain like Mickey Rourke in Iron Man 2. Definitely, this movie seems to be filled with a lot more menace.
I love the shots of Stark's Malibu home getting smoked and sinking into the sea, and the dialogue that touches on the big fight in The Avengers. And that slo-mo shot of Pepper and Tony getting blown back by the missile strike looks swell too.
After what Joss Whedon delivered with The Avengers, the expectations anyone had for Iron Man 3 reaching the same kind of stakes seemed silly to have. Now, after watching this first trailer for Iron Man 3, I'm starting to think that Shane Black might have what it takes to deliver a superhero action movie of the same smash 'em, back against the wall style that Whedon gave us.
Iron Man 3 opens on May 3, 2013.
