So there's this remake of Evil Dead scheduled for release on April 13. Frankly, I haven't been giving it much thought; there's so many remakes of '80s horror movies these days, how does an updated version of Sam Raimi's scary debut make itself stand out from any of the others?
Well, this new version of Evil Dead is now standing out for me thanks to the new (and its second) trailer.
It's a red band trailer, so beware of naught NSFW words and images...especially the images. If you were to pass a judgment on this 2013 Evil Dead movie, it looks like they're not shying away from the gore or blood. Another thing that I can glean from the quick flashes of imagery is that the new Evil Dead movie seems to be combining a few of the more memorable scary moments from the first and second movies. Anyone that's seen the 1981 Evil Dead movie can't forget the tree scene, and in Evil Dead 2: Dead By Dawn, there were the scenes showing the possessed woman in the fruit cellar peeking out and what Ash was forced to do to get rid of his possessed hand.
The new Evil Dead flick is directed by Uruguayan director Fede Alvarez and stars Jane Levy, Shiloh Fernandez, Jessica Lucas, Lou Taylor Pucci and Elizabeth Blackmore. Sam Raimi and original Evil Dead hero Bruce Campbell are producers on the new version, so puritan fanboys have something to warm themselves up to if they're having a hard time letting go of Ash not being in the new one.
Crank up your speakers and enjoy the two-minute tour of carnage:
