The film rights to the book The Straw Men have been acquired by production firm Benderspink. Based on the crime thriller (and the first in a trilogy) by Michael Marshall Smith, The Straw Men follows seemingly unconnected storylines that eventually converge together. One plot tracks a detective called out of retirement to track down a killer while the other follows a young man who, after burying his parents who died in an automobile accident, discovers clues that lead him to think that they might still be alive. Smith's book starts off with a shocker as two men walk into a fast-food restaurant and shoot dozens of people in cold blood. All three stories eventually link together.
Along with the rights to Smith's book Benderspink also picked up the rights to the Zenescope Comics adaptation. Joe Brusha, head of Zenescope, will be one of the movie's producers along with Ralph Tedesco and Benderspink honchos J.C. Spink and Chris Bender.
