Spartacus: Blood and Sand shuts down production
Posted by Patrick Sauriol on Tuesday, March 9, 2010
With days to go until the second season of Starz's historical action-drama Spartacus: Blood and Sand was slated to begin filming, the production has temporarily shut down because one of its stars is being treated for cancer.
Andy Whitfield, who plays Spartacus in the show, was recently diagnosed with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. He is undergoing treatment and Whitfield's prognosis is excellent, as the disease was caught in its early stages.
"I'm receiving excellent care, and am feeling strong, positive and determined with an army of support behind me," Whitfield told The Hollywood Reporter.
Six episodes remain in Spartacus' inaugural season. Since its premiere on January 22 the show has been growing in viewship, cracking the one million viewship mark in the second-to-last episode.
wow, i watched it free on Encore back in January... gosh i didn't think it was as bad as all the insults seem to make it.
Saw the opener I thought it was pretty shallow. 3 sex scenes in a premiere? What's left for sweeps?

George Martin, author of A Song of Ice and Fire, said the first episode was kind of a pile of crap. That was good enough for me.
