The king of disaster movies is thinking about taking the White House Down. Of course I'm referring to Roland Emmerich, the man who has destroyed the world more times than even Irwin Allen did in his heydey.
What's White House Down? It's a screenplay written by Amazing Spider-Man writer James Vanderbilt that sold for $3 million dollars last week to Sony Pictures. In it, a troop of paramilitary soldiers take command of the White House and hold the President hostage. Insiders have been calling Vanderbilt's White House Down a Die Hard-esque action movie, so Sony wants someone who knows his action to film it.
Deadline thinks that the deal is all but signed, and that White House Down will be Emmerich's next movie and film this fall. After shelling out the major coin for the story and gathering interest from the entertainment media about the event, the studio wants to strike while the iron is hot. This would also mean that Emmerich's proposed sci-fi disaster movie Singularity, which is also set up at Sony/Columbia, would be delayed until after White House Down is in the can.
