Parks and Recreation writer hits the Jackpot
Posted by Patrick Sauriol on Wednesday, December 9, 2009
It could be coming to a television set near you in about 8 months. "It" is a television show with the title of Jackpot, successfully pitched by Parks and Recreation writer/editor Alan Yang to the Fox Television Network. Hey, they gotta find something to replace Dollhouse with, right?
Yang's comedy project does have a hook that interests me: it's about what happens after a group of high school friends win the lottery. Now, that's a neat idea; every time I see a lottery winner on the TV news, they're middle-aged or older, established and entrenched in their lives and families, usually grinding away at a 9-to-5 job that they can't seem to bring themselves to quit even though it seems to have aged them beyond their years. Now take that kind of financial success and transpose it onto a bunch of teens just beginning to find out who they are, where the boundaries of their ethics lay and whose job probabaly is at the local burger shack. Yeah, I'd check out the pilot episode to see if the execution lives up to the premise.
Semi-Pro remake producer Michael Aguilar is working on the producing side of the equation. No casting yet.
