New trailer shows the Old West was Hell on Wheels

New AMC TV series tackles vengeance and the first transcontinental railroad.
From Breaking Bad (some basic cable bad language in this trailer) to the literary The Killing with its breakout actor Joel Kinnaman, AMC keeps building their TV schedule with smart shows that focus as much on character as the plot. They’ve covered everything from Mad Men's 1960s New York to The Walking Dead's post-zombie apocalypse, and now they’re heading back a ways to tell an old-fashioned tale of revenge in Hell on Wheels. Back to 1865 in the Old West, that is.
Set in post-Civil War America, Hell follows Cullen Bohannan (Anson Mount), a Confederate soldier out for vengeance on the Union soldiers who killed his wife. Bohannan tracks his quarry west and ends up in Hell on Wheels, a dangerous, lawless town that travels with and services the needs of the people building the first transcontinental railroad. Think a Phish head village, but more hammers.
The first transcontinental railroad was a groundbreaking work, no pun intended. Unprecedented for its time, its construction was made possible by a combination of brilliant engineering, greed and corruption, exploitation of the immigrant class and newly emancipated slaves looking to find their own place during the time of the Reconstruction.
Hell also stars Common, Dominique McElligott and Colm Meaney. AMC hasn’t set a premiere date for it yet, but you can catch the trailer right here:
