Mark Wahlberg cast as lead in Transformers 4

There was a rumor floated on the internetz a week about that Mark Wahlberg was going to headline Michael Bay's Transformers 4. However, the story was soon quashed by Bay's spokesperson who said that it was false.
But that was before we lived in the era of Star Wars Episode VII, which was supposed to never happen, right team?
Through a post on his official website, Michael Bay has announced the casting of Mark Wahlberg in Transformers 4. The details of the Ted and Contraband actor's character haven't been revealed; all we know is that he's in the next big 'bot movie.
"Mark is awesome. We had a blast working on Pain and Gain and I’m so fired up to be back working with him. An actor of his caliber is the perfect guy to re-invigorate the franchise and carry on the Transformers’ legacy," said Bay in his statement.
So why was Paramount or Bay being duplicitous about Wahlberg being in Transformers 4? Why the secrecy?
It's a fair question, and here's my best guess: someone was tipped off while negotiations were still underway with Wahlberg. Knowing that things could head south before he signed on-board, the studio and Bay's people dismissed the idea as just another fanciful internet rumor when it wasn't.
Speaking as a movie webmaster who's reported casting news that I knew was legit but according to the movie studio it effected was untrue, I wouldn't put it past Bay and Paramount. It's simply the way that the game is played.
Also released today: that logo for Transformers 4. It's a transformer itself, part number and part Decepticon symbol!
Bay's next release will be Pain and Gain, also starring Wahlberg and Dwayne Johnson. That one gets released on April 26, 2013.
