Maleficent photo released, movie begins filming

Filming has begun on Maleficent, the live-action origin tale of the evil witch from Sleeping Beauty. Angelina Jolie stars as the wicked green-skinned woman. To mark the start of shooting, Disney has released the first photo of Jolie dressed in her Maleficent costume.

Robert Stromberg called the start of action last Wednesday on June 13.

Maleficent also stars Sharlto Copley (District 9), Elle Fanning (Super 8), Sam Riley (On the Road), Imelda Staunton (Vera Drake), Miranda Richardson (Sleepy Hollow), Juno Temple (The Dark Knight Rises) and Lesley Manville (Secrets & Lies). Joe Roth (Alice in Wonderland) is producing from a screenplay by Linds Woolverton (The Lion King).

Angelina Jolie is also getting an executive producer credit on Maleficent.

Disney will release the movie on March 14, 2013 in 3D.
