Magic Kingdom could be Disney's Justice League
Posted by Patrick Sauriol on Thursday, September 30, 2010

So we've seen what happens when a Disney attraction like the Pirates of the Caribbean ride gets turned into a movie. What could be the next draw for the company to turn into a cinematic adventure?
How about the whole darn place?
An idea to make a Disney movie called Magic Kingdom is being considered at the House of Mouse. Developed by Battlestar Galactica reboot creator Ronald D. Moore, and then fleshed out into a screenplay, the concept is appealing enough to Disney executives that they want to hire a second writer to continue working on the idea. Moore's story details aren't well known but it involves multiple iconic Disney-owned characters and is set in the Disneyland park. The producers onboard are Marc Abraham and Eric Newman, the team from Strike Entertainment. Strike is the company that's making The Thing prequel that Moore wrote, and that's slated to come out in theaters next spring.
According to Variety's coverage of the story, insiders are calling the Magic Kingdom movie idea the Disney version of The Avengers or Justice League. Whereas those two superhero film projects involve a half-dozen or more superheroes coming together for one story, the Magic Kingdom concept does the same for Disney properties. For example, suppose one of the parts in the Magic Kingdom movie that is a hit with audiences involves Disneyland's Jungle Cruise ride. Now Disney has proof that people are interested in seeing a movie based on that concept, and so a Jungle Cruise movie could get the greenlight (in fact, a screenplay is already in development for such an idea.)
The downside is, if Magic Kingdom sucks then all the Disney characters and properties in it could be significantly set back in their paths becoming feature films. Conceivably, Disney could decide to hedge its bet and try to include a character that they know audiences want to see more of, like Captain Jack Sparrow from the Pirates of the Caribbean movies.
So, what comes next? Disney needs to find that second writer and juice up the potential for this tentpole project. And we need to get an insider scoop about what takes place in Moore's story.
bring back Captain Jack sparrow? (wouldnt that involve bringing back Johnny Depp?) would that also mean bringing back Eddie Murphy from the Haunted Mansion too? LOL!
Was that the name of the book KV? 'Cos I am pretty sure there is already a book about this, generally on sale in the various gift shops located at the ride exits.

My bet is that this project will show enough promise to convince Robert Zemeckis to drop the live-action film he's developing and jump on board as director.
Get ready to see Mickey and the Gang in eye-popping 3-D CG glory. It's what you've all been waiting for, Kids.
