He just landed a paycheck playing the new bad guy in Thor 2 but in this economy, does it hurt to have a second job? Mads Mikkelsen has been cast as NBC's Hannibal Lecter, playing the serial killer with an appetite for his human company. Hugh Dancy is playing FBI profiler Will Graham in the series.
Mikkelsen will likely be remembered by American audiences as the bad guy in Casino Royale, Le Chiffre. NBC has given an order for 13 episodes of the drama-thriller, scheduled to debut next fall on the network. Hannibal is being executive produced by Pushing Daisies creator Bryan Fuller and Martha DeLauentiis, producer of the 2002 Ridley Scott Hannibal film.
Fuller also wrote the pilot script which resets the story of Will Graham and Hannibal Lecter back to its first days. We're introduced to Graham as a young FBI profiler who is trying to ID a serial killer. One of his sources for insight is Lecter, who at this stage in their relationship hasn't been discovered or apprehended yet. That makes the events in the Hannibal TV series set before the action in Red Dragon, the first of Thomas Harris' Lecter novels.
David Slade (30 Days of Night, The Twilight Saga: Eclipse) will be shortly directing the Hannibal pilot.
