I think Bradley Cooper and his entourage will take the opening weekend of Limitless as a good sign. Box office estimates peg Limitless's three day take at a healthy $19 million dollars. Put another way, it looks like that guy from The Hangover can open a movie.
Rango is still hanging in at the second spot, earning $15m more to bring its three week total up to $92.5m. As we enter spring break time, the younger kids will be still headed to see this, although Diary of a Wimpy Kid 2 will take some of that money too when it opens this coming Friday.
Battle: Los Angeles drops from #1 to #3 this week. With $14.6m earned over the course of the weekend, Sony's alien invasion picture is up to $60.6m in 10 days.
Matthew McConaughey didn't have as good an opening as Bradley Cooper but The Lincoln Lawyer is enjoying good reviews. A fourth place $13.4m opening is decent for this drama.
In fifth place, Universal's Paul attracted $13.1m in money. It was made for about the same cost as The Lincoln Lawyer, but it's sci-fi/comedy story isn't getting the same critical response as McConaughey's picture.
Red Riding Hood tumbles three spots to #6 ($7.2m new, $25.9m total), The Adjustment Bureau is at #7 ($5.9m new, $48.7m total) and Mars Needs Moms is dropping fast at #8 ($5.3m new, $15.4m total.)
In ninth place is Beastly. It made $3.2m this week, but with an overall take of $22.2m, the team at CBS Films must be feeling pretty beastly themselves.
And finally we come to tenth place which is held this week by Hall Pass ($2.6m new, $39.5m total).
