January Jones gives birth to baby and speculation

Posted by Patrick Sauriol on Sunday, September 18, 2011

Mad Men star January Jones gave birth last week to her first child, a baby boy that she named Xander Danes Jones. While there exists a popular subculture that follows the baby news of Hollywood celebs, it's a subject area that Coming Attractions tends to stay away from. This time, there are three points that compel CA to write a story about this celeb birth:

  • it's January Jones, and the lingering image of her playing the White Queen in X-Men: First Class just won't go away.
  • she's keeping it a secret about who the baby's father is.

That last point is the one that's fueling the online celeb gossip machine. Some rags are speculating that she named her child Xander as a nod to her time spent working on the X-Men film, and that there's a hidden meaning behind that. If you're looking suspiciously at First Class director Matthew Vaughn, don't, because his publicist has already had to field questions that he was the baby daddy. (The answer was no.)

There's also talk that the baby is named after the father, and that's inspired one site to suggest that it could be one of Jones' co-stars in a movie she filmed late last year. According to The Superficial's mode of thought, the possible origin of the sperm could be actor Xander Berkeley who co-stars in Seeking Justice. This is a mean thing to say since Berkeley is a married guy, and to everyone's knowledge, remains in a happy relationship with his wife/actress Sarah Clarke.

Of course, the question could be raised whether it's any business of the Internet to care about who the father of January Jones' baby is, even if it makes perfect sense that this kind of thing could have been seen coming a mile away when we saw what her White Queen costume looked like in X-Men: First Class.

I'm a little confused; is the baby's name Xander or Xavier? Are those names interchangeable, like John and Jack?

Sorry, my bad. The baby's name is Xander. Xavier, X-Men, Xander...brain fart. Thanks for catching it.

I'm not trying to be a pain, but I'm still just a little out of the loop: how is Xander a nod to the 'X-Men' movies?  Is that supposed to be like a riddle, like nobody knows what it means?

Xander starts with X. It's an uncommon name for boys, so I was making a leap in my thinking that maybe naming her child with a first name that begins with an X came from her time on X-Men. Maybe that's where she met the father and she's honoring the serendipity of landing a job and how it changed her life.

Or maybe she just likes the name "Xander".

I bet she's just a ginormous Buffy fan. Also, she could be using the baby's name to try to get herself cast in the Buffy remake. Or the original Xander (Nicholas Brendon) is the father.

I think this is the best explanation ' Some rags are speculating that she named her child Xander as a nod to her time spent working on the X-Men film, and that there's a hidden meaning behind that"..off course something more could come of.
