The opening weekend for Immortals was fantastic for Relativity Media, the company that released the fantasy/action movie. Immortals grossed $32 million from Friday to Sunday, establishing a new box office record for the company and making the people at Warner Bros., who are producing the new Superman movie Man of Steel, a sigh of relief.
That's because Immortals starred Henry Cavill in its leading role. Cavill is also the choice for WB's new Superman, and by having a number one movie, Immortals' performance will help build Cavill's presence (and mentions) amongst entertainment minded readers.
Jack and Jill emerged in second spot. I've long held the personal opinion that Adam Sandler movies are worthless even as absurd comedies, but even with all of the online mockery I've witnessed for Jack and Jill, a $26 mil opening is very respectable. Unfortunately.
Puss in Boots is in third place ($25.5m new, $108.8m total after three weeks.)
Tower Heist drops to fourth ($13.2m new, $43.9m after two weeks.)
J. Edgar opens in fifth place ($11.4m), which is weak for a Leonardo DiCaprio movie but not-so-much for a Clint Eastwood-directed pic.
A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas drops to sixth place ($5.9m new, $23.3m new.)
In Time, starring Justin Timberlake and Amanda Seyfried, is in seventh spot ($4.1m new, $30.6m total.)
Paranormal Activity 3 has now been out for four weeks and just crossed $100 million bucks ($3.6m new, $100.8m total.)
Footloose (the remake) is #9 ($2.7m new, $48.8m total.)
And in tenth place, Real Steel with another $2 million in new ticket sales. Real Steel has now earned $81.7m total after six weeks of release.

It was a close call, but we went with Immortals over Jack and Jill. Very close call. If Goits was still in America, he would've seen J&J without hesitation.
