Ghost Rider & Crank co-director goes solo for Twisted Metal
Posted by Patrick Sauriol on Wednesday, February 15, 2012
Brian Taylor has inked a deal that will see him direct a live-action movie based on Sony's Twisted Metal car racing/violent mayhem game franchise. The project is set up at Sony Pictures, and with Avi and Ari Arad (the Spider-Man movies) onboard as producers.
What's unusual in the packaging of this one is that Taylor has co-directed four movies with his partner in crime, Mark Neveldine. They did both Crank movies together as well as Gamer which starred Gerard Butler. Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance is their fourth collaboration together, and it opens in theaters this Friday.
The site that broke the story states that the Twisted Metal movie doesn't mean the end of the Neveldine/Taylor collaboration streak. They still are hatching plans to make a third Crank movie with Jason Statham.
The Twisted Metal film deal is worth a reported seven figures for Taylor (maybe he just bought a new home and needs the cash). The storyline leaked to Deadline suggests that the movie won't stray far from the over-the-top carnage featured in the many different Twisted Metal games, and that several of the dark and twisted drivers behind the wheel of the heavily armed vehicles will be featured in the film.
Taylor will also write the screenplay for the movie.
The movie news was leaked on the same day that the latest Twisted Metal video game was released for Sony's PlayStation 3.
