I don't know why there was all the hate for the first two. I didn't think they were bad at all. I mean, they weren't LotR good by any stretch, but they were entertaining.

After being dismissed by Walt Disney Pictures, Walden Media has found a new partner in the form and shape of 20th Century Fox. That studio will now help make the third Narnia movie Voyage of the Dawn Treader.
According to Variety, Fox and Walden are going to split the cost of making and promoting the film, which is currently estimated to probably be around $140 million dollars (although the exact amount hasn't been finalized.) If everything works out the cast and crew would be filming the picture this summer in Australia for a holiday 2010 release.
Three of the four Prince Caspian children are set to reprise their roles, those being Skandar Keynes and Georgie Henley as Edmund and Lucy and Ben Barnes as Caspian. New to the franchise will be Will Poulter in the role of Eustace Clarence Scrubb. Michael Apted (Enigma) is still slated to direct.
There was hate for the first two? I mean, I definitely liked the first better, but the second wasn't bad by any means. Glad to see the third is going to get made, some way, some how.
I still havent seen either of these and dont plan on seeing Voyage of the Dawn Treader either... or for that matter. I thik after seeing 100,000 copies of Eragon and Golden Compassgathering dust on the shelves of my local blockbuster, I have pretty much written off any and all "fantasy genre" types in favor from some good old fashion hardcore HORROR and GORE.
can you blame me?...really?
Golden Compass was okay. I think that there were a few choices that the director made that he shouldn't have, but I also think that the studio screwed up on the editing. I'd like to see a director's cut. That movie could have, and should have been great.
Eragon and Dungeons and Dragons werent "ok" though... suddenly a flock of fantasy movies comes out and less than a handful are any good and all the rest are painful imitators and knock-offs.
this also happened with the zombie genre.
This series has the potential to make up for its past pitfalls. "The Silver Chair" and "The Musician's Nephew" can be really kick ass if they do it right. I'd say they need to start by getting a different director. Apted needs to stick to animation.

Not exactly the savior I was hoping for, but I suppose if they're just putting up money (of an already estimated budget), hopefully their usual shenanigans of being super cheap and hurrying productions shouldn't come into play. Hopefully.
