Newell opening a new Box of Delights

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire director Mike Newell is staying within the realm of fantasy for his next job, The Box of Delights. Based on the 1935 children's book by John Masefield, Newell will first finish up post-production work on Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time for Walt Disney Pictures before moving on to his next job.

Red Tails cast finalized

Lucasfilm has finally pulled the trigger and announced that filming on Red Tails will begin shortly. The long gestating project was originally conceived of by Star Wars creator George Lucas and centers on the true story of the Tuskegee Airmen and how they overcame racism and prejudice to become a recognized elite fighter squadron in World War II.

Six hired for Twelve

Kiefer Sutherland, Ellen Barkin, Emma Roberts, Curtis Jackson (a.k.a. 50 Cent), Rory Culkin and Chace Crawford will star in the drama Twelve. Filming is scheduled to commence April 20 under the direction of Joel Schumacher (The Number 11).

Roger Friedman is fired over his Wolverine review

There was plenty of he said-she said over the weekend concerning the employment fate of Fox 411 entertainment columnist Roger Friedman. After the Fox News website pulled Friedman's early review for X-Men Origins: Wolverine, based on a leaked workprint, from the site a rumor published by blogger Nikki Finke surfaced that Fox had sacked him.

Fox pulls Wolverine workprint review, issues statement

Sometime Friday evening Roger Friedman's early review of X-Men Origins: Wolverine, based on the leaked workprint on the internet, was pulled from the Fox News website. The studio behind the film issued two statements that have run on websites about Friedman's article and the company's view of it.

Fox columnist reviews bootlegged Wolverine movie

In the last 48 hours there has been many news stories about the illegally released, high-quality workprint of X-Men Origins: Wolverine dumped on the internet. 20th Century Fox, the FBI and the MPAA all have launched their own internal investigations into how the file got dumped online, and Fox has even gone so far as to commend the online fansite community for not condoning the release of the Wolverine print.

Rum Diary starts filming

Filming has just begun on The Rum Diary, an adaptation of gonzo journalist Hunter S. Thompson's first novel. The film stars Johnny Depp as a 1950s journo that leaves a cushy job in New York City to work for a newspaper in San Juan. It's also the first picture that Depp's production company, Infinitum Nihil, is making.

The new Freddy has nearly arrived on Elm Street

When Latino Review first broke the news that Watchmen's Jackie Earle Haley was being considered as the new face of Freddy Krueger nearly two months ago, the story was quickly denied by a Platinum Dunes representative. Now a second site is reporting that not only is Haley under consideration, he's in contract negotiations to play Freddy.

Fame trailer hits the stage

MGM has given Moviefone the exclusive online debut for the trailer of Fame, the new 2009 update that is. Starring Bebe Neuwirth, Kelsey Grammer, Charles S. Dutton, Megan Mullally and a host of rising talent, none of the big stars can be glimpsed in the film's first trailer. Instead the emphasis is on the relaunch of the brand -- hey, MGM marketing decided to go with the old classic logo and that's cool.

First two Toy Story films back in theaters this fall

Disney will release the first two Toy Story films for a special two-week run in theaters this fall. Both the original Toy Story and Toy Story 2 are being re-rendered to screen in Digital Disney 3D, allowing the latest 3-D technology to bring the 1995 and 1999 films into the third dimension for viewers.
