Year One gets rated PG-13

Earlier this week Harold Ramis' new comedy Year One went before the Motion Picture Association of America and got rated R. For any comedy, especially one that costs around $75 million dollars and is a tentpole summer release for any major film studio, getting slapped with an R could mean the kiss of death at the box office.

Sin City 2 still with Weinsteins

Yesterday's rumor that The Weinstein Company had lost the rights to make Sin City 2 has been shot down. MTV's Splash Page did the legwork and acquired an official comment from a studio representative that eliminated all possibility that someone else other than Weinstein was going to make the sequel.

The Sin City movie blasted its way into theaters back in 2005 and since then all we've heard is that there's supposed to be a sequel in development. Rumors have floated around that production was about to begin and then...nothing. Now there's a new rumor that may shed some light on the hold up for Sin City 2.

Umbrella Academy opens at Universal

A movie based on the comic book series The Umbrella Academy is in the early formative stages at Universal Pictures. Based on the trippy superhero comic book created by My Chemical Romance singer Gerard Way, Universal has signed screenwriter Mark Bomback (Live Free or Die Hard, Constantine) to pen the adaptation.

Bruckheimer and Disney ride Horse Soldiers

Jerry Bruckheimer and his compadres at The Walt Disney Company have a new project to collaborate on. The studio has bought the screen rights to Horse Soldiers, a soon-to-be-published non-fiction account of a group of special forces soldiers and CIA operatives who helped liberate Afghanistan in the war after 9/11.

Based on the 1935 children's book by John Masefield, Newell will first finish up post-production work on Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time for Walt Disney Pictures before moving on to his next job.

Red Tails cast finalized

Lucasfilm has finally pulled the trigger and announced that filming on Red Tails will begin shortly. The long gestating project was originally conceived of by Star Wars creator George Lucas and centers on the true story of the Tuskegee Airmen and how they overcame racism and prejudice to become a recognized elite fighter squadron in World War II.

Roger Friedman is fired over his Wolverine review

There was plenty of he said-she said over the weekend concerning the employment fate of Fox 411 entertainment columnist Roger Friedman. After the Fox News website pulled Friedman's early review for X-Men Origins: Wolverine, based on a leaked workprint, from the site a rumor published by blogger Nikki Finke surfaced that Fox had sacked him.
