10 hidden easter eggs in Captain America: The First Avenger

Ever since the release of the first X-Men movie back in 2000, there has been an intelligent attempt to build up the layers of the Marvel film universe. With thousands of characters created throughout the years, and millions of people now familiar with the heroes that populate the Marvel universe, the creators of the modern Marvel movies, as well as the executives running Marvel Studios, are trying to appease fans by giving them quick cameos or mentions of characters and equipment from the comic books.

DiCaprio, Scorsese reunite on The Wolf of Wall Street

Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio have their fifth movie project to work together on, an adaptation of The Wolf of Wall Street. Based on the memoir of Jordan Belfort, a pump-and-dump broker from the 1980s that swindled millions of dollars and was later convicted of frauding his investors. Before the feds closed in and arrested Belfort he lived life like a rock star, spending money like there was no tomorrow.

As I mentioned, this is DiCaprio and Scorsese's fifth movie together. DiCaprio will also serve as a producer on The Wolf of Wall Street through his Appian Way production company. Scorsese is also a producer along with Emma Koskoff and Riza Aziz and Joey McFarland via Red Granite Pictures.

Prometheus viral video: Happy Birthday David

Regardless of how the end movie will turn out, the Prometheus viral marketing team is doing a stellar job of marketing their product. Today's gem is a new video featuring Michael Fassbender's David, the Weyland "artificial person" that resides onboard USCSS Prometheus and assists the crew on their mission.

Avengers reviews (sorta) and a new scene spoiled

One of the things that I've watched unfold from my small corner of the online movie community is the need for several online movie peeps to be the first to tweet about their (indeed) fortunate privilege to watch an early screening of a hyped movie. Yesterday it was for The Avengers, and as is typical of several of these personalities, the tweets began and started to answer most of the heavy geek questions like, "Who are the aliens that Loki commands?" and "What's the end credits scene show?"

Director Alex Proyas to make The Unpleasant Profession of Jonathan Hoag

One of the legendary writers from the golden age of 20th century science fiction was Robert Heinlein. Even though Hollywood hasn't made many movies from Heinlein's works (Starship Troopers being the best known exception), his shadow over the genre remains huge.

I, Robot, Knowing and Dark City director Alex Proyas read Heinlein's novella The Unpleasant Profession of Jonathan Hoag when he was a boy, but the story made a big impact with the young man's mind. Now Proyas is getting an opportunity to make a movie based on this lesser known of Heinlein's creations.

Watch 5 minutes from Lockout starring Guy Pearce

Guy Pearce is in a sci-fi action movie? Really? Lockout has been under nearly everyone's radar since news about it started filtering up a few months back. Mainly that's due to Lockout being a Europa Corp. movie, and it's European pedigree has meant that the same North American marketing buzz for it has been absent that gets afforded other movies like Pearce's Prometheus.

Rumor: Description of first Man of Steel trailer

It's been a while since CA's published a honest-to-goodness rumor, something that I don't know may be true or not. That's the way things were done a dozen years ago on movie websites, and while the ratio of successes to failures was reasonable, not every movie rumor turned out to be the truth.

Some did.

Gary Ross won't direct Hunger Games sequel Catching Fire

As of last night The Hunger Games had earned $269 million dollars from its North American screenings. Lionsgate has already staked out a November 22, 2013 release for Catching Fire, the movie based on book two of Suzanne Collins' dystopic trilogy, and things look good for star Jennifer Lawrence to make both Catching Fire and the X-Men: First Class sequel without any scheduling conflicts.

Captain America 2 given 2014 release date

The Captain America movie sequel will arrive in theaters on April 4, 2014. The date was announced today in a release issued by Walt Disney Pictures, the new owners of Marvel and the film distribution company.

The studio would only say this about the direction of Captain America 2: "Steve Rogers continues his affiliation with Nick Fury and S.H.I.E.L.D and struggles to embrace his role in the modern world."

The Mummy gets a spaced out writer for its reboot

Is it too soon to remake The Mummy movie franchise? Not according to its Universal Pictures owners who have hired Prometheus and The Darkest Hour screenwriter Jon Spaihts to come up with a fresh concept on the dusty tomb dweller.

"I see it as the sort of opportunity I had with Prometheus," Spaihts said to Variety, the source of the original story break. "To go back to a franchise's roots in dark, scary source material, and simultaneously open it up to an epic scale we haven't seen before."

Roland Emmerich could direct White House Down

The king of disaster movies is thinking about taking the White House Down. Of course I'm referring to Roland Emmerich, the man who has destroyed the world more times than even Irwin Allen did in his heydey.

What's White House Down? It's a screenplay written by Amazing Spider-Man writer James Vanderbilt that sold for $3 million dollars last week to Sony Pictures. In it, a troop of paramilitary soldiers take command of the White House and hold the President hostage. Insiders have been calling Vanderbilt's White House Down a Die Hard-esque action movie, so Sony wants someone who knows his action to film it.

The Hunger Games towers over Wrath of the Titans

So, The Hunger Games is the big champ this weekend. With a second weekend gross of $61 million dollars, the movie has pulled in $251 million dollars in ten days. The Hunger Games is now the highest-grossing picture of 2012 so far and the 65th highest of all-time. It's surely going to crack the $300 million dollar barrier by this time next week and could conceivably stand to reach $350 million or even $400 mil.

Brit Lit heroes in The Royal Honours Society bought by Sony Pictures

Think of this new movie project like The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen but done for the writers of the League characters. Sony Pictures has bought an idea for a movie called The Royal Honours Society which postulates English 19th century novelists H.G. Wells (The War of the Worlds), Jules Verne (20,000 Leagues Under the Sea), Robert Louis Stevenson (The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde) and some unrevealed others.

Twins sequel Triplets in development with Eddie Murphy

Even though it's been nearly 25 years since Twins came out at theaters, Universal Pictures, Montecito Picture Company and the movie's stars are hoping that there's enough interest out there to warrant a sequel. Titled Triplets, the idea is barely more developed than a zygote -- but it has both Twins stars Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito attached to the project along with the third (and newest) sibling: Eddie Murphy.
