From Casino Royale to Green Lantern?

Director Martin Campbell breathed new life -- twice -- into the James Bond film franchise. In 1995 he directed the first of Pierce Brosnan's Bond films, GoldenEye, and revitalized Bond for a post-Cold War era. In 2007 Campbell returned to the world of 007 again with Casino Royale and, again, rejuvinated the spy by minting Daniel Craig with his license to kill. Now Campbell's next assignment may be to make the Green Lantern movie a reality.

Screenwriter brought on board Gyllenhaal's moon trip

When a project is stuck in development hell one of the tried, tested and proven true methods of getting it moving forward again is having a new writer come on board and do a new draft. The writer might find a new angle or some new way of communicating the story and thus refocusing the determination of everyone else working on the project.

Al Pacino wants to be King

Reported in the pages of Variety this morning is the story that Sony Pictures has a new deal with Platinum Studios, a comic book publisher that has a thousand different properties but not much in the way of actual books in comic books stores. Sony is developing an as-yet unnamed animated feature based on a Platinum property. So what's the property?

Carpenter goes to The Ward next

John Carpenter's next will be part psychological thriller, part ghost story. The original Halloween helmer has signed on to direct The Ward, scheduled to start filming come May. Amber Heard (Alpha Dog) toplines the movie as a beautiful young woman who, while incarcerated in a mental institution, is haunted by a ghost.

Slumdog star joins Shyamalan's Airbender

The actor who rose to worldwide fame as Danny Boyle's Slumdog Millionaire has landed his next acting job in M. Night Shyamalan's The Last Airbender. Dev Patel will play one of the Airbender's allies, a member of the Fire Tribe named Zuko.
