10 hidden easter eggs in Captain America: The First Avenger

Ever since the release of the first X-Men movie back in 2000, there has been an intelligent attempt to build up the layers of the Marvel film universe. With thousands of characters created throughout the years, and millions of people now familiar with the heroes that populate the Marvel universe, the creators of the modern Marvel movies, as well as the executives running Marvel Studios, are trying to appease fans by giving them quick cameos or mentions of characters and equipment from the comic books.

Original Blade Runner screenwriter Hampton Fancher in talks to write Blade Runner 2

The days are counting down to the release of Ridley Scott's return to science fiction, Prometheus. Meanwhile, we know that Scott is involved with creatively shaping a second movie set in the same universe of Blade Runner, the director's now-classic 1982 movie that celebrates its original release 30 years ago next month.

News has been thin about the second Blade Runner movie project until today's announcement that screenwriter Hampton Fancher is in discussions to write the screenplay to the sequel. And yes, I said "sequel", for it's now confirmed that the direction that Scott and his producing partners want to take with Blade Runner 2 is a continuation to the '82 picture.

Avengers is on track for a $90 million dollar second weekend

Earlier today Marvel's The Avengers movie crossed the $300 million dollar mark at the domestic box office. Yesterday The Avengers took in about $29.1 million, down from the phenomenal $80 mil that the picture opened to one week earlier -- but that ain't nothing to sneeze at.

At close of business yesterday The Avengers had earned $299,143,000 -- give or take a hundred thousand or so. Factor in another $533 million dollars (so far) from the international ticket sales and the movie will stand at the cusp of one billion dollars in worldwide box office sales by Sunday evening.

Disney CEO confirms Avengers 2 is a go

It shouldn't be a surprise to anyone on this planet that there will be a sequel to The Avengers. When any movie opens and sets a new record for its opening weekend, thoughts of a sequel should follow.

Trailer: Argo

The third movie that Ben Affeck has directed now has its first trailer. Argo is the title of the film, and it tells the story of how a young CIA agent hatched a crazy plan to get 6 rescued Americans out of Iran during the Iran hostage crisis of 1979. And it involves Hollywood and Star Wars, in a kind of roundabout way.

Has Ridley Scott's Prometheus killed Guillermo del Toro's At the Mountains of Madness?

There's one month left on the calendar before Prometheus opens in theaters and we can experience Ridley Scott's return to the universe of Alien. But even if Prometheus turns out to be a monster-sized success, a different filmmaker is lamenting over the loss of his opportunity to tell a bleak tale of mankind up against extraterrestrial existential horror.

James Cameron only in the business of doing Avatar sequels

The man that made two back-to-back highest-grossing movies of all-time has gone on the record saying that he's only interested in returning back to the world of Pandora. Of course I'm talking about Avatar and Titanic filmmaker James Cameron, the guy who's currently busy diving to the bottom of the ocean, investing in asteroid mining and writing the screenplays for Avatar 2 and Avatar 3.

Video: The top 5 Agent Coulson moments from Marvel movies

Actor Clark Gregg has carved himself out a thin but sweet slice of fame from Marvel's Cinematic Universe. As S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent Phil Coulson, Gregg's straight-man act sandwiched between alien demi-gods, armored heroes and time-displaced super-soldiers has won him a huge audience in a short time. And if you've already seen The Avengers, then you know that Agent Coulson's role is critical to the movie's storyline.

The Avengers earns $80 million dollars on its opening day

Marvel's The Avengers opened yesterday and beat the industry expectations, taking in an estimated $80.5 million dollars in its first 24 hours playing across North America.

Even so, The Avengers didn't beat the all-time champ, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 which opened on its first day to the tune of $91.1m.

The Avengers earns $18.7 million from midnight shows

No big surprise here but the tally for Thursday midnight showings of The Avengers turned out to be pretty large (but not large enough to become a new top dawg.) The estimated amount is still pretty good: $18.7 million dollars. That beats The Dark Knight's early showings ($18.5m back in 2008) but not the #1 midnight opening haul achieved by Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 ($43.5m.)

New 3D Tarzan movie finds its jungle man and Jane

A 3D Tarzan movie is now moving forward and looking likely to begin filming later this year. Casting decisions have been made on the movie's two big parts, that of the jungle wildman Tarzan and his beautiful civilized consort Jane.

Twilight franchise star Kellen Lutz has won the part of Tarzan while Spencer Locke (who played K-Mart in several Resident Evil films) will play Jane Porter.

Constantin Films is producing this new Tarzan movie, and in addition to filming it in 3D they'll also be using another new technology: performance capture. This kind of technique was most recently seen used in Steven Spielberg's Tintin movie.
