Falling Skies lands a third season

Posted by Patrick Sauriol on Wednesday, July 11, 2012

Returning to the TNT cable network last month, the second season of the sci-fi/actioner Falling Skies was warmly greeted by its audience. 4.5 million people tuned in to watch Noah Wyle and his band of human survivors take on the alien invasion of Earth. So far Falling Skies has averaged about 4 million viewers an episode -- decent numbers for its Sunday timeslot.

The channel decided that was good enough for its bottom line and so has renewed Falling Skies for a third season of 10 episodes.

"Falling Skies is television storytelling at its very best, a powerful drama that's told on both an epic scale and on a deeply personal level," said Michael Wright, the president and head of programming for TNT. "With all the memorable and surprising moments taking place during the second season of Falling Skies, we can't wait to see what DreamWorks Television and Falling Skies' terrific production team and cast members have in store for season three."

Steven Spielberg is an executive producer on the show along with Robert Rodat, screenwriter of Saving Private Ryan. Falling Skies also stars Moon Bloodgood (Terminator Salvation), Will Patton, Drew Roy, Connor Jessup, Colin Cunningham, Maxim Knight, Seychelle Gabriel, Peter Shinkoda and Sarah Carter.

I'm glad we're getting a third season. I liked the first season well enough, but the second season is definitely better.
