Evangeline Lilly talks The Hobbit and her Elvish heroine
Posted by Patrick Sauriol on Wednesday, January 25, 2012
Lost cast member and Real Steel love interest Evangeline Lilly is interviewed in the new ish of Entertainment Weekly, and she's asked to talk about her Elvish character in the two Hobbit movies. As Peter Jackson is up to his beard in Middle-earth scenes, Lilly answered EW's questions about her warrior character, Tauriel, and how she fits into the all-male group that goes adventuring.
The character is more in the second Hobbit movie (subtitled There and Back Again) and only in a small part in the first film, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. "She’s actually the head of the Elven guard," Lilly explained to the mag. "She’s the big shot in the army. So she knows how to wield any weapon, but the primary weapons that she uses are a bow and arrow and two daggers. And she’s lethal and deadly. You definitely wouldn’t want to be caught in a dark alley next to Tauriel."
Her contract basically makes her unavailable for other work for a year, and she's flying back and forth from L.A. to New Zealand for the next five months as her scenes come up. She's also heard rumors that a sequel to Real Steel is in the early stages of development, but there's been no formal contact from the studio yet. "Shawn [Levy, director of the movie] did tell me that if there is a sequel, my character, Bailey, will be featured a lot more than she was in the first film," she added.
